Wase takes seat as ECOWAS parliament Deputy Speaker

The Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase, has been sworn in as Deputy Speaker of the Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament.

The event was performed by the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Moustapha Cisse Lo, at the opening ceremony of the second extra-ordinary session of the parliament in Monrovia, capital of Liberia.

Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Umar Muhammad Puma, in a statement said Wase replaced the former Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Sulaimon Lasun.

He said Wase was unanimously adopted to replace Lasun by the Nigerian delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament and other members of the regional legislative body.

The statement quoted Wase after his swearing as promising to join hands with his colleagues in the parliament in the efforts for the integration of the sub-region. “My priority is to work harmoniously with my colleagues, especially the speaker, to advance the integration of the West African sub-region,” he said.
