After a long battle with the national electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha, the immediate past governor of Imo State has taken his place as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Senator Okorocha who represents Imo West Senatorial District was sworn in during plenary on Thursday, 13th June, 2019 by the President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, as a senator.

It will be recalled that Rochas Okorocha could not participate in the general inauguration of June 11, 2019 due to issues relating to withholding of his Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission. By his swearing-in, Imo State now has two out of the constitutional three senators per state.
