A major contender in the Senate Presidency race in the 9th Assembly, Senator Danjuma Goje, has declared support for the candidacy of Senator Ahmad Lawan from Yobe State, after a meeting with the President Muhammad Buhari and Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai in the Presidential Villa this afternoon.
In a meeting which was hosted by the President Buhari, on Thursday, Goje made it clear that his decision was precipitated by Buhari’s intervention.
At a meeting that lasted for hour, Goje who is also a key contender said he has to obey the party supremacy and the President Buhari’s believe in order to avoid the 2015 incident that produced the outgoing Leadership in the 8th Assembly.
Goje said even though his chances to clinch the seat are bright, he has no option than to withdraw from the race after the meeting with the President and other stakeholders in the politics.
The decision by the Gombe Central Senator-elect, has now dragged Contestants inbthe Senate Presidency race to two, between Senators Ahmed Lawan and Ali Ndume of Borno South.
The 9th Assembly will kick off on Tuesday, 11th June, 2019, due to President Buhari’s proclamation on its inauguration .
