The Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives have launched a state-of-the-art electronic documents management system (EDMS) to enhance its job performance.
The unveiling ceremony was performed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara and was attended by a broad spectrum of government and private agencies including the Clerk to the National Assembly, Alh. Mohammed Ataba Sani-Omolori; Auditor-General for the Federation, Mr. Anthony Ayine Mkpe; the Diplomatic Community, Policy and Legal Advocacy Center (PLAC), Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited, Nigerian Communications Commission, DFID, PERL, the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police, etc.
The unveiled EDMS is a fully automated approach to the work of the Committee and is meant to phase out completely, the tedious analog operations and activities the Public Accounts Committee. By the digitalisation of its operations, the storage, reference and archival challenges hitherto faced by the Committee over the years is expected to be a thing of the past as all documents has been totally converted to electronic formats.
In his welcome address, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. O. K. Chinda noted that inadequate facilities, manual operations, improper documentations, MDAs lack of articulation during public hearings, etc. that made the work of the Committee more herculean, propelled his leadership to seek solution to the challenges and bring its operations in tandem with the trending global practices. Hon. Chinda said that going forward, the Committee would no longer accept paper submissions from Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
