President of the of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Wednesday, signed the senate’s version of the much talked about National Minimum Wage Bill, 2019. The Bill was passed by Red Chamber at its sitting on Wednesday, 20th March, 2019. This followed the adoption of N30,000 earlier proposed by labour as the proposed new minimum wage. The House of Representatives had earlier, adopted same amount as the new minimum wage figure.
By this action, the expectation of the workers especially the public servants has now moved to the Presidency as the Bill needs assent from President Muhammadu Buhari for it could become operational. The Bill was read the first and second time on Thursday, 24th January, 2019 and received the third reading and passage on Tuesday, 19th, March, 2019.
